The most important thing you can do to sound good is to keep your kalimba in tune. To tune a kalimba is to actually adjust tines so they have the exact sound they are supposed to, according to which note a tine is designated to play. Hammer with Online App or a tuner: You can use a real tuner or download an App. (Android system app: gStrings, Apple system app: Instuner. ) Tune with a hammer: Making tines longer (from the point where they are held down on the bridge) will lower their pitch, and making them shorter will make their pitch higher. 3. Also, after you tune up, make sure that the tines are more or less equally spaced. There is a mysterious phenomenon that sometimes happens – periodically, you will find that when you shift the tines to the left or right to get them equally spaced, you will “excite a buzz” in one of them. If this happens, shift the tine to an orientation where it does not buzz. Now you have to shift the neighboring tines (2-3 on each side) around to re- establish approximately equal spacing – and hopefully, that process doesn’t excite one of those other tines to buzz too. I got this for my father-in-law who is not able to get out much. As he loves musical instruments & owns several guitars, a harmonica, accordion & mouth harp, I thought this was a great idea. Very fun. Nice mahogany craftsmanship & it comes with a nice case as well as a cloth bag & a tuning hammer. Well worth the money. I myself have already learned a song when I go over to visit weekly. I may just get one myself so we can jam.These are a great way for young people to learn music and get away from the video game for awhile They are very sturdy and come with everything you need to start playing My granddaughter played her first song in about 5 minutes without any previous musical experience They are really worth the money I already bought 4 I will be buying more for Christmas presentsI was hoping she would fall in love with this instrument and learn many songs….. guess she’s not that musicialArrived quickly and in great shape. It is a Christmas gift that I think my 15 year old grandson will enjoy. This is my first Kalimba and I plan to use it in my classroom, so very pleased with my purchase!Beautiful sound, surprisingly easy to learn and the amount of songs you can play is crazy, it arrived tuned perfectly and with everything i need to start playing including some simple beginner songs and a helpful explanation of how it works, also comes with these rubber thumb covers which make playing easier at first but does make my finger a little but sweaty so i ended up keeping them but using my bare fingers instead, build is from what i can see solid wood and very well made, nothing cheaply glued or anything, once again i am very glad i bought this at the great price :)Really beautiful little instrumentWell packaged, excellent additional items which are easy to use, and a beautiful instrument - it was even in tune when we received it!
